Athiest, Richard Dawkins Wants to Start A Summer Camp for Athiest Children

Here is an article that was on Al Mohler's site. Interesting, Richard Dawkins, perhaps the world's most famous living atheist, is setting up a summer camp intended to help children and teenagers adopt atheism.

Today's Sunday School Class

Hello all, I enjoyed teaching Sunday School this morning and I thank the Lord for the opportunity. Although, I will admit this subject matter is rather difficult and I haven't taught Sunday School for a while, so, I am kind of out of my comfort zone. If something doesn't sound right or you have some ideas to better the class, feel free to comment on the blog. I think the interaction and discussion, the better. I enjoy the feedback from all of you especially using scripture references as it pertains to the subject matter. I'm finding out there is much to moral absolutes and moral relativism.

Thanks, JB

Here We Go Again: Church and State Conflict

Lynn Kinsell sent me this article about a school in California censoring a 2nd grade girl from performing in sign language a Christian song, We Worship You. Here's the link to the article. Click on the link.

School Censors Second-Grader's Talent Show Performance

I get so tired of this issue. It's ridiculous. We will definitely deal with Church and State issues in a month of so in our Sunday School class.

Thanks Lynn

Theme of the Class

Remember the theme to our class:

"We are the salt and the light in a dying world."

Here are a few commentaries I found on the salt and light explanation of Matt. 5: 13-16. Just click on the link.

1. A concise commentary by Matthew Henry.

2. A more narative explanation: Worthless Disciples

3. Christians: Salt and Light

Also, here are few readings on Christian Ethics:

1. What is Christian Ethics?

2. Christian Ethics Reading Room

Key Verses: Matt.22: 36 - 40

Don't forget the verses of scripture I chose as our key verses for the class. Matthew 22: 36-40.

36 “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?”
37 Jesus said to him, “ ‘You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’
38 This is the first and great commandment.
39 And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’
40 On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”

Here is the summation I read from Albert Mohler's book, Culture Shift that describes this passage of scripture in regards as Christians in a secular America.

Verses 36 to 38: In other words, the Christian life is summarized in the two commands. We must first understand our culture and its challenges because we are to be faithful followers of Christ and faithful witnesses to the gospel. We are called to faithfulness, and faithfulness requires that we be ready to think as Christians when confronted with the crucial issues of the day. This is all rooted in our love of God.

Verses 39 to 40: But Jesus also commanded love of neighbor, and Christians must be driven by love of neighbor as we confront the issues of our day. We care for the well-being of our neighbors, and we want to see them come to faith in Christ. We care about marriage, sexuality, children, the dignity of human life, and a host of related issues because we love God first and this leads directly to love of our neighbor---and our neighborhood. In the end, the culture and its challenges will pass away. But our Lord has left us here for a reason---as His people we are to be salt and light in a dying world.

Theme Song: We Need Jesus

Here is the theme song for our class. We Need Jesus. It is by Petra and summarizes the importance of our ministry on earth. Which is to share the love of our Savior with the world. I downloaded this from You Tube. Just click on "play" and it should begin.

Here are the lyrics to the song:

Verse 1:
When will the world
See that we need Jesus?
If we open our eyes
We will all realize
That He loves us
When will the world
See that we need Jesus?
When our hearts are as one
And believe that He's the Son of our God

Chorus:
The Lord is our God
And we shall never want
The Lord is our God
And we shall live forever
When we share the love of Jesus
See each other as He sees us
Then His love will see us through
His love will see us through

Verse 2:
When will the world
See that we need Jesus?
When sister and brother
Love one another as one
When will the world
See that we need Jesus?
Will we ever understand
Jesus is the Son of man?
We must live in the shadow of His love

Christian In A Secular Amerrica 1

This is the PowerPoint from of our first session on Sunday, June 14th.

Today's Sunday School Class

Thank you for attending today's first session on The Christian In A Secular America. I will have to admit that I was a "tad bit" nervous because I haven't taught Sunday School for a few years. It's little different teaching adults than teenagers. Nevertheless, the Lord is good and I enjoyed the conversation, discussion and learning from you. I will be posting all sorts of information regarding today's lesson on Christian Ethics and next week's Biblical Absolutes vs. Moral Relativism. Feel free to comment, checkout some of the websites or download some of the information I provide.
